Abstract
The article focuses on Saree Makdisi's book "Tolerance is a Wasteland," which critiques the concept of tolerance within the context of Zionism and its implications for Palestine. It discusses the Museum of Tolerance Jerusalem (MOTJ), created by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, as a symbol of Zionist history-making that is built on a former Muslim cemetery, highlighting the contradictions between the museum's claims of promoting tolerance and the realities of dispossession and erasure faced by Palestinians. Each chapter of the book examines the mechanisms of denial that accompany the Israeli settler colonial project, linking it to broader themes of liberalism and its impact on global politics. The article emphasizes the need for those outside Palestine to confront their roles in this ongoing situation and to support Palestinian resistance. [Extracted from the article]
