Abstract

This article focuses on the Apple TV+ series *Slow Horses*, highlighting it as an underappreciated spy thriller that exemplifies the strengths and challenges of Apple's streaming service. Based on Mick Herron's novels and developed by comedian Will Smith, the show centers on a group of disgraced British intelligence agents relegated to a rundown office called Slough House, led by the abrasive Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman). Despite Apple TV+'s reputation for high-budget, prestige programming, *Slow Horses* represents the streamer's successful middlebrow offerings—engaging, character-driven dramas that have not reached wide audiences due to Apple's marketing shortcomings. The series combines sharp humor, complex plotting, and a critique of institutional prestige, positioning its misfit protagonists as the true heroes amid a dysfunctional intelligence hierarchy.
