Abstract
The article focuses on the troubled recording of John Lennon’s 1975 covers album *Rock ‘n’ Roll*, produced amid legal pressure from Chuck Berry’s publisher Morris Levy and during Lennon’s turbulent “Lost Weekend” period. The sessions, held in Los Angeles with top West Coast musicians and producer Phil Spector, were marred by heavy drinking, drug use, and Spector’s erratic behavior, including firing a gun in the studio, which led to the sessions’ collapse. After reclaiming the tapes and returning to New York, Lennon completed the album with a new group of musicians, resulting in a moderately successful release that preceded his personal reconciliation with Yoko Ono. The album stands as a chaotic but significant chapter in Lennon’s solo career before his eventual return to family life. [Extracted from the article]
