Abstract

The article discusses CUNY's Bilingual Journalism Program at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism. The program, launched in 2016, is the first bilingual master's journalism concentration in the United States. It aims to train bilingual students to cover Latino communities in the US, as the Latino population continues to grow and exert political and cultural influence. The program emphasizes journalistic excellence and empathy, teaching students to produce rigorous reporting in both English and Spanish while understanding the complexity of the Latino experience. Students in the program take five courses in Spanish and benefit from additional courses in English. The program has produced award-winning journalism and its graduates have gone on to work in leading media outlets. The article also provides contact information for those interested in the program.
