Clearly, the US did not endear itself to its imperial subjects, but rather inspired deep-seated resistance whose revival should be expected if the US continues on its present policy course. As the United States escalates its military presence in the Asia-Pacific to "contain" an ascendant China, I Menace to empire i reminds us that earlier US imperial aspirations in the region had deadly consequences.
