Abstract

The article discusses new research on Thurstonian item response theory (Thurstonian IRT), which is used for latent trait estimation with forced choice data. Conducted by researchers at Technical University Dortmund in Germany, the study highlights issues with the original Thurstonian IRT model, particularly regarding stochastic and logical dependencies that arise from binary ranking of statements. The researchers propose an alternative Bayesian implementation that accounts for these dependencies, demonstrating a significant reduction in computational effort while maintaining parameter accuracy. The findings suggest that all dependencies should be considered when fitting the Thurstonian IRT model. [Extracted from the article]
