Abstract
This article focuses on the career and vocal artistry of Jackie Wilson, a dynamic and influential soul and R&B singer known as "Mr. Excitement" for his powerful voice and theatrical stage presence. Wilson, who succeeded Clyde McPhatter as lead tenor in Billy Ward And His Dominoes, blended sweet and symphonic soul with energetic performances, influencing artists like Michael Jackson and shaping early soul music. Despite commercial ups and downs, his collaborations with producers such as Carl Davis and songwriters including Berry Gordy yielded notable hits like "Reet Petite," "Lonely Teardrops," and "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher And Higher." Wilson’s career was tragically cut short after a heart attack during a 1975 performance left him in a coma until his death in 1984. His extensive Brunswick catalog and live performances remain significant for researchers studying the evolution of soul and R&B music. [Extracted from the article]
