Abstract
The article focuses on architect Frank Gehry’s exceptional project management approach, which enables him to deliver large, complex architectural projects on time and within budget—an achievement rare in the context of major global projects, where 99.5% fail to meet these criteria. Gehry’s success is attributed to four key lessons: securing full control over the project (“the organization of the artist”), rigorously questioning project goals to align vision and client expectations, employing extensive simulation and iterative testing aided by advanced digital modeling, and investing significant upfront planning time to enable faster, more reliable execution. These principles contrast sharply with typical large projects, which often suffer from poor planning, lack of control, and cost overruns, exemplified by the Sydney Opera House’s troubled history. Gehry’s methods highlight the importance of trust, collaboration, and deep engagement throughout the project lifecycle.
