Abstract

The article traces Sinclair Lewis's complex relationship with Connecticut, where the Nobel Prize-winning author sought roots but never found lasting acceptance. Topics include Lewis's satirical portrayals of Connecticut society, his literary connections to Mark Twain and Yale University; and the tension between his desire for respectability and his rebellious nature that made him an outsider.
