Abstract
This article centers on a roundtable discussion among five prominent Black executives addressing the challenges facing Black leadership and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives in the United States amid political opposition during the Trump administration. The participants—leaders from various industries including investment, corporate governance, and executive search—reflect on the rollback of DEI efforts, the persistence of systemic barriers, and the importance of maintaining narratives of earned success and resilience. They emphasize the need for data-driven approaches to diversity, the role of mentorship and community support, and the responsibility of current leaders to advocate for future generations despite a hostile environment. The conversation also highlights concerns about corporate responses to political pressure and the broader implications for democratic principles and equitable opportunity.
