Abstract

The article focuses on how the life and teachings of Saint Augustine of Hippo influence the leadership of Pope Leo XIV, an Augustinian friar. Saint Augustine, a 5th-century North African bishop and founder of the Augustinian monastic community, emphasized compassionate care for individuals and practical guidance for communal living in his "Rule of Saint Augustine." His experiences as both an insider and outsider to Roman power shaped his views on community, justice, and the transient nature of worldly dominance, themes that inform Pope Leo XIV’s worldview. The pope’s connection to Augustine highlights a legacy of empathy, correction of wrongdoing, and a global Christian perspective rooted in historical awareness.
