Abstract
The article analyzes the current state of Australian progressive politics, focusing on the leadership of Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the Australian Labor Party. It argues that Albanese represents a pragmatic, center-right approach that prioritizes incrementalism and maintaining the two-party system, rather than pursuing a transformative center-left agenda. The piece highlights growing public dissatisfaction with the traditional two-party system, evidenced by declining major party support and rising votes for smaller parties and independents. It concludes that the established political order is undergoing a realignment marked by increasing authoritarianism, and that progressive forces must reconsider their strategies given Labor’s shift away from its working-class and social-progressive roots.
