Abstract
There are in Greece two kinds of algebra: that of Diophantus' Arithmetica, using some symbolism and algebraic reckoning, and that used in school, based on the use of identities. Second-degree problems deal mainly with right triangles, as the subsequent examples, half of which come from the papyrus Gen. inv. 259, will illustrate. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
