Abstract

This article focuses on evaluating the applicability of Bharti et al.'s (2015) value co-creation model to culturally safe research collaboration involving Aboriginal Australians, specifically within a project engaging Aboriginal community members, health practitioners, policymakers, and marketing experts. The study found that while the model captures many essential elements for managing diverse stakeholder interactions, adaptations were necessary to address cultural safety, including the addition of a cultural broker role, cultural governance mechanisms, and a sixth pillar for evaluation. Reflexivity, respect for Aboriginal methodologies, and equitable team structures were emphasized to privilege marginalized voices and foster mutual learning. The adapted model offers a structured approach to facilitate meaningful engagement and collaboration in research with marginalized groups, highlighting the importance of local cultural protocols and ongoing evaluation.
