Celebrating 10 Hispanic Women Who Broke Barriers.

Abstract

This article celebrates 10 Hispanic women who have made significant contributions in their respective fields. The women highlighted include Ellen Ochoa, the first Hispanic American female astronaut; Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic American female Supreme Court Justice; Lydia Mendoza, the first Hispanic American female music star; Evelyn Cisneros-Legate, the first Hispanic American female prima ballerina; Juliet V. García, the first Hispanic American female college president; Susana Martinez, the first Hispanic American female governor; Laurie Hernandez, the first Hispanic American female gymnast to qualify for the Olympics; Rita Moreno, the first Hispanic American female actor to win an Oscar; Myrtle Gonzalez, the first Hispanic American female Hollywood movie star; and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the first Hispanic American female elected to the U.S. Congress.
