Abstract
This article explores an aesthetic foundation for education grounded in love and wonder, contrasting it with the modern, reductionistic model that begins in doubt and seeks certainty. Drawing on Jacques Maritain's concept of "creative intuition," Flannery O'Connor's "habit of being," and Esther Lightcap Meek's philosophy of loving to know, the article argues that education should cultivate vision through attention, humility, and an integrative posture that involves the whole person. Using 1 Corinthians 13:12 as a paradigm, it emphasizes that knowing is akin to seeing "in a mirror dimly," requiring a humble, relational, and attentive approach that values beauty and mystery over mere analysis. The article concludes by suggesting practical implications for educators, including fostering wonder, shaping learning environments aesthetically, and nurturing communal and embodied practices.
