Abstract
This article examines the potential cost savings associated with using online pharmacy discount tools, specifically the Mark Cuban Cost Plus Drug Company (CPD) and GoodRx, for purchasing vaginal estrogen medications. By comparing prices of Estrace, Vagifem, and Premarin from retail pharmacies, Medicare Part D data, and discount platforms, the study found that CPD and GoodRx offer significantly lower average costs per dosage unit. The analysis estimates that nationwide adoption of CPD pricing over Medicare could save approximately $64.2 million annually, while using either CPD or GoodRx instead of retail prices could save about $39.2 million annually. These findings suggest that such discount tools may reduce financial barriers for patients and decrease national expenditures on vaginal estrogen treatments.
