Abstract

The article focuses on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's statements ahead of the fifth year of the Russia-Ukraine war, emphasizing Ukraine's resilience and the need for sustained international pressure on Russia. Zelensky rejects narratives of Ukrainian defeat, highlights the high human and infrastructure costs of the conflict, and insists that peace negotiations require strong, legally binding security guarantees, including U.S. congressional ratification. He opposes concessions on the Donbas region, viewing such moves as weakening Ukraine and betraying its people, and stresses that elections in Ukraine should only occur after a ceasefire and security assurances are in place.
