Abstract

A recent study conducted by researchers at the Catholic University of Louvain (UCLouvain) in Belgium explores Emile Durkheim's theory of collective assemblies and collective effervescence. Durkheim believed that individuals' well-being and survival depend on cultural resources and social belonging, which are revitalized through periodic collective gatherings. The researchers examined Durkheim's main statements and translated them into research questions, finding support for his century-old model in recent cognitive and social-psychology studies. The study concludes that Durkheim's theory is remarkably supported by recent experimental results. [Extracted from the article]
