Abstract

The article reflects on Michelle Kwan's 2002 Olympic exhibition skate to "Fields of Gold" as a meditation on grace, loss, and the deeper meaning of excellence beyond winning medals. Topics include the emotional resonance of artistic performance;the tension between technical achievement and expressive beauty in sport;and the idea that devotion to one's craft can be its own reward.
