Abstract
The article centers on a 2010 interview with sociologist Zygmunt Bauman, recently published in English, which explores his perspectives on terrorism, political legitimacy, and the transformation of modern society from "solid" to "liquid" modernity. Bauman discusses how terrorism exploits global interconnectedness and media amplification to instill fear, leading states to prioritize personal "safety" over broader social "security," thereby reshaping the relationship between citizens and governments. He critiques the erosion of the welfare state amid globalization, the rise of consumerist citizenship, and the trade-off between freedom and security, highlighting the increasing acceptance of surveillance and restrictions in the name of safety. Bauman also reflects on justice as an ongoing societal process, emphasizing the challenges of inequality and the need for continuous collective effort to address injustice in a globalized world.
