Abstract

A new report discusses the impact of the Human Genome Project on schizophrenia research. The project aimed to discover genetic causes and treatments for human diseases, including schizophrenia. However, despite extensive studies using various genetic approaches, researchers have not been able to identify causal genes for schizophrenia. Instead, they have found genetic variants associated with altered risks of developing the disorder. The report suggests that it may be time to review the research portfolio on schizophrenia conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). [Extracted from the article]
