Gait analysis in patients with cerebral infarction and intracerebral hemorrhage walking with a body weight-supported walker.

Abstract

This article focuses on comparing gait characteristics in stroke patients with hemiplegia under three conditions: normal walking, walking with a walker, and walking with a body weight-supported (BWS) walker. The study found that both walker gait and BWS walker gait improved spatiotemporal parameters such as speed and cadence compared to normal gait, with the BWS walker further enhancing the percentages of stance and swing phases. No significant differences were observed in joint kinematics across the conditions. Additionally, similar improvements were noted in patients with cerebral infarction (CI) and intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), suggesting that BWS walkers are effective gait training tools for stroke patients regardless of stroke type.
