Abstract
This article evaluates the clinical effectiveness and predictability of a treatment protocol for peri-implantitis involving mechanical debridement, chemical antiseptic detoxification with sodium hypochlorite and hydrogen peroxide, and osseous grafting using a bovine hydroxyapatite and calcium sulfate mixture covered by a porcine collagen membrane. In a case series of nine patients with 15 affected implants, significant improvements were observed over 12 months, including a mean pocket probing depth reduction of 3.6 mm (59.2%), decreased bleeding on probing, and radiographic bone fill averaging 2.1 mm (43.5%). The protocol demonstrated stable clinical and radiographic outcomes at one year, suggesting it is a reproducible approach for managing peri-implantitis. The authors note that further larger, controlled clinical trials with longer follow-up are needed to confirm these findings.
