Abstract

Scientists are calling for more caution when estimating the size of extinct giant creatures. Recent research has shown that size estimates of many extinct giants, such as the Dunkleosteus fish and the megalodon shark, have been called into question. The limited fossil record and the assumptions made during extrapolation can lead to inaccurate size estimates. Spurious size estimates can create biases and impact our understanding of ecology and the environment. Researchers suggest downplaying size and focusing on the inherent interest and value of these animals. [Extracted from the article]
