Consequences of adaptation to larval crowding on sexual and fecundity selection in Drosophila melanogaster.

Abstract
This article investigates how long-term evolution under chronic larval crowding affects sexual selection in the fruit fly *Drosophila melanogaster*. Using experimentally evolved populations maintained under crowded (MCU) and control (MB) larval conditions for over 250 generations, the study measured sex-specific mating and reproductive success in a common high-density environment. Results show that males from crowded populations exhibit reduced mating and reproductive success compared to controls, while females show no significant difference in reproductive success between treatments. Additionally, the negative impact of larval crowding on reproductive success is approximately twice as strong in females as in males, indicating sex-specific evolutionary responses to chronic larval crowding.
