Abstract
The article summarizes the 2024 Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology (SICB) symposium on "Chordate Origins, Evolution, and Development," which focused on the developmental gene regulatory networks (GRNs) underlying chordate body plan evolution within the Deuterostomia superphylum. Presentations covered comparative genomics and developmental biology across chordate subphyla—Cephalochordata (lancelets), Tunicata (tunicates), and Vertebrata—as well as related Ambulacraria groups (hemichordates and echinoderms).
