Abstract
The article focuses on the scientific advances and cosmetic innovations related to skin longevity within the broader field of longevity research, which studies biological aging beyond chronological age. It highlights the evolution from anti-aging to pro-aging and reverse-aging approaches, emphasizing the role of molecular and cellular mechanisms identified in the Hallmarks of Aging, a framework that now includes 14 biological and psychosocial factors influencing aging. Givaudan Active Beauty applies white (fermentation-based), green (plant-derived), and blue (marine-derived) biotechnologies to develop targeted cosmetic actives that address these hallmarks, aiming to preserve and restore skin health at the cellular level. The article also underscores the bidirectional relationship between skin health and psychosocial wellbeing, noting that stress and social factors impact skin aging and that certain cosmetic ingredients can mitigate these effects.
