Abstract
This article focuses on the multifaceted roles and regulatory mechanisms of transcription factors (TFs) in plants, emphasizing their dynamic ability to act as both activators and repressors of gene expression. It reviews how TF functionality is influenced by factors such as cis-regulatory elements, chromatin architecture, post-translational and post-transcriptional modifications, non-coding RNAs, and environmental signals, including stress responses. The duality of TFs is highlighted through examples like alternative splicing, feedback regulation, and modifications such as SUMOylation, which enable plants to finely tune gene expression for development and adaptation. Understanding these complex regulatory networks has practical implications for molecular breeding aimed at improving crop traits under diverse environmental conditions.
