Abstract
This article focuses on the role of the nuclear-localized DEAD-box RNA helicase 13 (RH13) in chloroplast development in Arabidopsis thaliana. The study demonstrates that RH13, localized in the nucleolus and widely expressed in plant tissues, is essential for proper chloroplast biogenesis, as loss of RH13 leads to abnormal chloroplast structure, reduced chlorophyll content, and impaired leaf morphology. Proteomic and RNA-sequencing analyses reveal that RH13 mutation causes down-regulation of photosynthesis-related chloroplast proteins and affects alternative splicing of chloroplast-associated genes, suggesting that RH13 influences chloroplast development through regulation of nuclear gene expression and RNA processing. These findings highlight a novel nuclear factor impacting chloroplast function, indicating crosstalk between nuclear RNA helicases and chloroplast biogenesis.
