Abstract

This article reviews the significant contributions of *The Western Australian Naturalist* journal to the knowledge and appreciation of Western Australia’s native flora. Since its inception, the journal has published over 200 refereed papers covering diverse topics such as taxonomy, pollination, species ecology, distribution changes, and regional flora surveys, often authored by both professional and amateur botanists and naturalists. The journal has played a vital role in documenting new species, range extensions, and conservation issues, supporting community participation in biological surveys well before the rise of formal Citizen Science. Despite some gaps in coverage of certain groups like algae and fungi, the journal remains a key platform for field-based ecological studies and local botanical knowledge essential for conservation and management of this globally significant biodiversity hotspot.
