Abstract

This study examines how green innovation and environmental performance influence the financial success of U.S. corporate venture capital (CVC) parent firms, with a focus on the moderating role of corporate social responsibility (CSR). Using data from 133 CVC parent firms between 2002 and 2019, the research finds that firms reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and investing in environmentally friendly innovations experience improved financial performance both short- and long-term. Additionally, CSR—measured through environmental and social performance scores—strengthens the positive relationship between green innovation, environmental performance, and financial outcomes. The findings suggest that integrating sustainability and CSR into corporate strategies can yield mutual benefits for the environment and firm value, offering practical insights for managers, policymakers, and investors interested in sustainable business practices.
