Abstract
This article focuses on identifying the minimum data set (MDS) and functional and nonfunctional requirements for a smartphone application designed to support caregivers of children with severe burns. Conducted in a burn center in Iran, the study used literature review, caregiver interviews, and expert Delphi surveys to determine essential data elements—such as admission and discharge dates, family relationship, total body surface area (TBSA), burn cause, anatomical location, itch, pain, and infection—and key app features including user registration, educational materials, caregiver–clinician communication, chat functionality, appointment booking, and secure login. The findings provide a framework to guide health managers and software developers in creating effective mobile health tools that facilitate self-care education, remote monitoring, and communication for pediatric burn care.
