Abstract
The article focuses on Revolution RETOLD, an educational research project that employed place-based education (PBE) through a university-operated local fashion retail store to connect fashion design and merchandising students with their community. The project engaged students in real-world retail challenges by assigning them industry-specific roles to collaboratively develop a sustainable store concept emphasizing zero-waste pattern-making, upcycling, and local labor. Student reflections highlighted improvements in communication, negotiation, and self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses within a collaborative, experiential learning environment. This initiative illustrates how PBE and situated learning can prepare fashion students for interdisciplinary teamwork and problem-solving in authentic industry contexts.
