Abstract
The article examines the impact of Generative AI (gen AI) on workplace productivity and employee motivation. Research involving over 3,500 participants indicates that while collaboration with gen AI enhances task performance and quality, it simultaneously diminishes intrinsic motivation and increases feelings of boredom when transitioning to tasks without AI assistance. The findings suggest that reliance on gen AI can lead to disengagement and lower job satisfaction over time. To mitigate these effects, the article proposes strategies for organizations, such as blending AI and human contributions, designing engaging solo tasks, and training employees to use AI mindfully, ensuring that the benefits of AI do not compromise workers' motivation and engagement.
