Abstract

The article discusses the performance management overhaul at the Center for Employment Opportunities, a nonprofit focused on assisting formerly incarcerated individuals. The organization, which expanded nationally between 2015 and 2020, recognized the need for a more effective and equitable performance management process due to its previous reliance on inconsistent Google Forms and a cumbersome tracking system. The revamped approach introduced a standardized evaluation framework based on four success factors—role mastery, goal accomplishment, relationship management, and values championship—along with a learning management system to enhance employee development. Feedback from employees indicated a positive shift in sentiment towards performance management, with high engagement rates and improved clarity in performance discussions.
