Abstract

Siemens and Japan's Kyosan have been granted permission to deploy the indigenous anti-train collision system 'Kavach' on the Indian Railways network. The plan is to increase the deployment of Kavach to 5,000 km per year by FY26, with the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah railway routes being fitted with the system by March 2025. Currently, Kavach is operational on 1,659 km of railway lines, with an additional 500 km expected to be covered by March 2024. Tenders for installing Kavach on another 2,500 km of railway networks will be awarded soon, and the next generation of Kavach will be based on LTE technology. [Extracted from the article]
