Abstract
This article focuses on the joint venture Sony-Honda Mobility, formed by Sony Group and Honda Motor, which has halted development of its first planned electric vehicle (EV), the Afeela 1, due to changes in Honda's electrification strategy. Established in 2022 as an equally owned company, the JV is now reassessing its long-term business model, including workforce adjustments and exploring opportunities beyond EVs, such as artificial intelligence assistants and in-car audio technologies originally developed for the Afeela 1. While the passenger vehicle project is currently shelved, Sony aims to leverage the partnership to expand its entertainment offerings in mobility, and Honda may integrate some JV-developed software and services into its broader vehicle lineup.
