Abstract

This article focuses on the legacy and ongoing relevance of H. Igor Ansoff (1918–2002), a Russian-American mathematician recognized as a founder of strategic management. Ansoff is best known for his 1965 book *Corporate Strategy* and the “Ansoff Matrix,” which introduced growth strategies through new products and markets, as well as for emphasizing organizational readiness to detect and respond to change rather than predicting the future. Recent research, supported by the Ansoff Institute and the Ansoff Archives at the University of Twente, has verified and expanded his published works, highlighting his coherent framework on environmental sensing, weak signals, and strategic surprise. His ideas continue to influence contemporary strategic management practices, particularly in managing uncertainty and aligning internal capabilities with external turbulence.
