Abstract
This article focuses on a study examining whether online partner-seeking through geosocial networking and dating applications ("apps") is associated with condomless anal sex (CAS) among men who have sex with men (MSM). Conducted with young adult MSM in Central Kentucky, the research found that while CAS was common (72% of relationships), there was no significant difference in CAS rates between app-facilitated and non-app-facilitated partnerships. Factors such as partner age, race-ethnicity, communication frequency, and history of sex with HIV-positive individuals were linked to higher CAS odds. The study suggests that prevention efforts should include diverse strategies via both apps and traditional venues to promote testing, consistent condom use, and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake.
