Abstract

This article discusses the effects of the Act on Extraordinary Measures for Urban Problems, a controversial urban place-based policy implemented in the Netherlands. The policy aimed to improve neighborhood quality and reduce segregation based on employment. The study found that the policy reduced the share of non-employed individuals in treated neighborhoods and led to a decrease in housing prices in those areas. The authors suggest that the price drop may be due to a stigma effect caused by the widely discussed policy. The article acknowledges the limitations of the study and suggests further research on long-term effects and the impact on discriminated individuals. [Extracted from the article]
