Utilization of Topical Polysporin and Triamcinolone for the Treatment of Hypergranulation Tissue.

Abstract
This article focuses on the evaluation of a novel topical treatment combining triamcinolone, a corticosteroid, and Polysporin, an antibiotic ointment, for hypergranulation tissue in burn wounds. Hypergranulation is an excessive growth of granulation tissue that impairs wound healing and increases infection risk. In a retrospective review of 88 patients with burn-related hypergranulation treated at a tertiary burn center, 95.7% achieved resolution with this 50/50 triamcinolone and Polysporin mixture, with an average healing time of 27.5 days and minimal adverse effects reported. The study found no significant differences in healing based on age, gender, race, burn etiology, or hypergranulation location, though larger total body surface area burns were associated with slower resolution. The authors suggest this treatment offers anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial benefits while avoiding the pain and scarring linked to traditional silver nitrate therapy, recommending further prospective studies to confirm efficacy and safety.
