Abstract

The article focuses on a cross-sectional study examining the computerization of academic libraries in Nigeria from the perspective of library personnel. It reports a high level of automation in cataloguing and circulation sections, with lower computerization in areas like serials and bindery. Daily use of computerized services such as online loan systems and Online Public Access Catalogs (OPAC) was common, while other services were used less frequently. The study found that library personnel generally perceive computerization as useful and efficient for their work, though perceived ease of use did not significantly correlate with usage. Major barriers to computerization include slow internet, poor funding, unstable electricity, and inadequate infrastructure. The study recommends comprehensive digitalization across all library sections and increased funding to enhance automation efforts.
