Abstract
This article discusses the importance of climate resilience at Superfund sites, highlighting their vulnerability to natural disasters like flooding and wildfires. It emphasizes the need for proactive measures, such as Institutional Controls (ICs), to prevent contaminant spread during disasters. By incorporating ICs in initial remedy selection and working with local communities, site managers can effectively prepare for and mitigate climate disaster impacts. The text also explains the process of evaluating cleanup alternatives and the concept of Explanation of Significant Differences (ESD) to adapt remedies without changing the original plan. EPA tools, like climate vulnerability assessments, can help prioritize sites requiring climate-resilient measures like ICs. [Extracted from the article]
