Abstract

This article discusses the reasons why big projects often fail and provides advice on how to avoid these pitfalls. The five main reasons for project failure are identified as: the project itself being flawed or lacking value, unrealistic constraints such as inadequate funding or time, lack of effective leadership, complexity, and getting the basics of project management wrong. The article suggests strategies such as hiring experienced executives and project management professionals, adopting consistent processes for project selection and governance, committing to strict governance, and involving and empowering project managers earlier in the process. These strategies can help organizations prevent project failures and increase the chances of success. [Extracted from the article]
