Abstract
This article focuses on generating a comprehensive hand anthropometric database of male and female agricultural workers from various tribes in northeast India and applying this data to the ergonomic design of agricultural hand tools and protective equipment. Measurements of 35 hand dimensions from 228 males and 198 females aged 18–60 revealed significant gender differences, with males having larger hand dimensions, and notable ethnic variations among tribes, particularly in length-related measures. Age influenced finger thickness, depth, and circumference but not length. The study provides specific anthropometric recommendations for designing tool handles, grips, and protective gear tailored to this population, emphasizing the need to consider gender and ethnic differences to improve safety, comfort, and efficiency in agricultural work in northeast India.
