Abstract

The article explores the evolving landscape of ethical responsibility in business leadership amid an ongoing ethical revolution. It underscores the ineffectiveness of standard compliance methods and emphasizes proactive practices for leaders to instill integrity within their organizations. Robert Chesnut, the author, draws from his experience as the founder of eBay's marketplace trust and safety system and a general counsel and chief ethics officer at Airbnb, to outline six key practices: leading by example, navigating integrity moments, setting realistic goals, customizing ethics codes, open dialogue on ethics, and establishing effective reporting systems. He stresses the importance of transparency in investigations, repetition in fostering a culture of integrity, and integrating ethics into business decision-making and emphasizes that integrity, if embraced authentically and consistently, can be a powerful asset in inspiring employees and earning consumer trust in today's values-driven climate.
