Abstract

The article discusses the Project ACCESS program at The College of the Florida Keys, which provides postsecondary education for students with intellectual disabilities and autism, focusing on retail training through certifications, internships, and paid employment. The program partners with the National Retail Federation (NRF) Foundation's RISE Up program to offer retail industry fundamentals training and a new microcredential for positive interactions with neurodivergent customers. Students gain hands-on experience through role-playing, mock job interviews, and site visits, preparing them for future job opportunities in the retail industry. The program aims to help students feel confident and prepared for their careers, with a focus on developing both technical and soft skills. [Extracted from the article]
