Abstract
The Port of Montreal is facing a halt in longshoring activity as an employers' group locks out 1,200 union members, disrupting the second-largest port in Canada. The ongoing labor dispute has led to a significant decrease in container-handling capacity since dockworkers walked off the job on Oct. 31. Despite an offer of a 20% pay raise over six years, union members rejected the proposal, leading to the lockout. The Montreal Port Authority has requested government intervention to resolve the dispute, while a separate labor conflict on Canada's west coast is also causing disruptions.
