Abstract

This article discusses how luxury fashion retailers can learn from the wholesale flower market to generate sales without damaging their brand reputation. The authors propose using a multichannel descending auction method, similar to the Dutch auction used in the flower market, to move inventory of high-end fashion products. They also suggest establishing a presale channel to signal product quality and differentiate products. The article provides examples of how online platforms like StockX and Vestiaire Collective have successfully implemented variations of the Dutch auction method in the fashion industry. Overall, the article argues that retailers can use price discounting to generate sales of premium-branded products without damaging the brand's reputation. [Extracted from the article]
